The transition from Big Band era swing to the style known as Bebop was an exciting time. Innovators such as Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie laid the foundation for modern jazz. This talk will use visual materials and sound recordings to trace the history of the transition, including brief biographical information about the colorful characters involved, a discussion of musical elements that made the change happen, and general cultural and historical background.
