SCS has selected Michelle Johnson as the new volunteer coordinator.
Michelle hails from West Chester, Pennsylvania. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Bucknell University in Political Science and Spanish. She also completed her Master’s Degree in Nonprofit/Nongovernmental Organization Leadership Management from the University of Pennsylvania. Michelle has worked at Vanguard and Union County United Way. She served her yearlong graduate internship at the Salvation Army in Philadelphia.
      “I am very excited about working for SCS,” says Michelle. “I have a lot of ideas about organizing our volunteer recruitment so that we can reach out to all kinds of people, especially the Baby Boomers.”
Michelle hopes to formalize volunteer orientations and make jobs easier for the volunteers and staff by providing written manuals for many volunteer positions.   “I plan to utilize technology a lot,” she explains.   But working at SCS is not the only exciting thing in Michelle’s life. On March 28th she will be getting married to fiancé Michael and starting a whole new life.
     “Planning a wedding is overwhelming,” Michelle confesses. “But fortunately most of it is under control. We still have to hire a photographer though. Michael and I are having a buffet for 150 people. We are both very excited.”
Michelle, who loves planning and coordination, is helping to start a non-profit at her church in West Chester. She is also on the Board for Center for Family and Relations (CFAR).
When she is not working Michelle says she “loves to shop!” She also likes to travel, read books and write poetry. In fact, a couple of her poems were published in her college newspaper.  Michelle is very close to her parents and other family members, and believes that family is very important.  She also believes that volunteers are indispensable to any non profit.
     “Volunteers need to know how important their work is,” Michelle concludes. “I plan on letting them know how much they are appreciated as often as I can.”
